Kirsa Jenson

14 year old Kirsa jensen went missing without a trace on September 1st 1983 whilst riding her horse Commodore in napier, hef horse Commodore was found by the Tutaekuri river bridge. They had a few witnesses one of the few said that they saw kirsa with blood all over her face, and said that she had fallen of her horse, two other witnesses suggested that he may of been taken away by a man in a white ute. The police had one big suspect called john russell he had already been convicted of rape, the police tested hundred of thumbprints from his house and the truck but none of them matched. A few days after this John hung himself in the hastings guest home, there was no notes saying why he took his life, it could've been because the truth was so horrifying he couldn't live with it.

The police believe kirsa had fallen from her horse and the man from the white ute, he was described as a european male with brown hair, and around 20-30 years old, the witnesses had seen the driver with his arm around the girl's shoulder and driving one handed, many witnesses saw commodore tied up to a gun emplacement. There is 5,000 reward for whoever finds her. On the day she went missing her parents starting getting worried at 5:30pm and called the police at 6:00 pm, the police searched till 11:30 before it was called off for the night but started at first light. Over the next 48 hours the police still had had no sight of kirsa.

The next day a video was made of kirsa's every movement, all they found that was important that was that the white ute drove past around 4:30pm. The police's theory is that kirsa meet some foul play by a person that was yet unknown.

Alcohol should not have been invented

I strongly believe alcohol should not have been invented, I believe this because many bad things happen because of alcohol people get drunk and get hurt and can lead to longtime brain damage, my other reasons are that it is extremely bad if you consume alcohol during pregnancy and lastly that many hospitals are full of people that have injured themselves whilst drunk.
My first reason that it can harm your body if you're not careful. This is true if you consume too much alcohol it can make you drunk, different people have different levels some people can get drunk by just one glass and others don't get drunk till after three glasses. Drinking alcohol does not just make you drunk it can affect the brain, alcohol does not affect the teenage brain as much as the adult brain because the teenage brain is still developing if this is you it can lead to long-term brain damage. It can affect the brain which would affect different parts of the brain with control movement, speech, judgement and memory, you could also have trouble walking, slurred speech, memory lapses and impulsive behaviour.

Another major thing is drinking when pregnant, this is bad because it can pass through to the baby's blood and damage and affect the growth of the baby's brain. The brain and spinal cord are most likely to get damaged through the process. A baby born to a mother who drank alcohol during pregnancy may suffer from alcohol fetal syndrome, they may also suffer from problems with their vision, hearing, memory, attention span, and abilities to learn and communicate. You can drink 1 to 2 glasses a week but no more, but I would advise not to also if you get heavily drunk that is when it starts to affect the baby.

My third and final reason is that many hospitals are overloaded with drunk people who have injured themselves, Many hospitals including Waikato hospital have been overloaded with drunk people who have been injured. According to http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/87208201/crate-day-causes-drunken-flood-of-people-at-waikato-hospital-ed
An Average of 200 people a day arrives at the Waikato emergency department, on Sunday and Mondays that number increases to 250 people a day, normally raised by drunk people. They are normally aged between 16 and 23 years old, the staff say they try to assist at least 95 percent of our patients but have not been able to do this for the last few weeks.

So overall, even if you think drinking alcohol can't-do much, as a matter of fact, it can! A lot more than you think, so to go through my ideas again I said that it affects the body in many different ways, it could affect your baby during pregnancy and lastly, the hospitals are overloaded with drunk people, all of these things are caused by drinking alcohol so StOP drinking.

Debating

I am the second speaker and I will be talking about the impact it could have on other people's lives. Since adults normally go to work around 8:00 am, kids starting later would affect the drop-off and pick ups before and after school. This will also make life much harder with the amount of traffic in the day, from the parents going to work, to dropping their kids off and people going into town for general things. This has an effect on the roads when you want to drop your kids off at school.

According to the US department of labour, 89.7% of people/parents that are employed have a family with children or are just a caregiver/supervisor. 61.1% of people employed have both parents working throughout the day. It is shown that 95.6% of employed adults are male. All this would mean parents would have to change their hours to get there kids to and from school, this would be a big hassle for parents.

It would also affect the before and after school cares, it would mean that parents who start work earlier and would normally drop there kids of at  before and after school programs would have to change their work hours or find somewhere else for their kids to go, if school started later it would mean that the after school workers would have to extend their working hours to look after the children, that would leave no time for the workers to relax after work.

Sometimes, to keep families going, they spend quality time together after school or sometimes, people play a sport of there choice. The list goes on and on of activities people like to spend their time doing in the hours after school. But just think, if school is taking up those hours in the afternoon, how will you get to your sports, music lessons and other hobbies.

Your second speaker said that mood swings are caused by not getting enough sleep. Getting enough hours of sleep is important for all teenagers but if they aren't getting enough sleep, can't they just go to bed earlier?

Persuasive Writing

Should we have a uniform? I think we should.

I believe that we should have uniform Firstly because if kids come to school wearing their own clothes, thinking that it's cool and then all the kids laugh at them because it looks funny/ugly, which would be a  form of bullying, most kids don't want uniforms but if they came to school wearing something they love but everybody hates they would probably want the uniform back.
My second reason is that if kids wore whatever they wanted and walked around town in those clothes it would set a bad impression on the school, for example, if a boy walked around in town wearing scruffy clothes and no shoes, then it would probably set a bad impression for the school and parents might not recommend it for others.

The final reason is that if you are wearing the school uniform, and you are walking back from school and cross through the village and see a boy who is lost and help him find his parents, then the parents could contact the school and you could be thanked. Also if you did something bad like throwing a rock at someone's car, and someone saw you they could then identify you and contact the school.

Swimming Pool

SWIMMING POOL

WALT:
  • Apply our knowledge of area and volume.
  • Creatively solve a mathematical problem.

Marc and I are planning on digging a swimming pool. We want the pool to fit in our section with a border of at least two metres on all sides. We want our pool to have a minimum area of 40m2.
Our back section is 10m wide and 15m long.
  1. What possible pool sizes could we have
10 by 8 meter pool, 8 by 13 meter pool.
  1. What is the largest pool that we could fit in our section?
The biggest pool you could fit would be the 8 by 13 meter pool.

If I want the pool to be 2m deep. What is the volume of the largest pool you have designed?
208㎥

If I wanted a composite shape pool, what designs could I use?

If my pool had a sloped bottom, what would the volume be?

If I had steps leading into my pool, what would the volume be?

If I needed to re-tile the interior of my pool, what is area?

If I filled my pool with water, how much water would I need?

If I was going to move my pool, how heavy would it be with water included?

Lottie

Lottie is a kind loving person and is only 3 years old. When you look at her face you see her bright blue eyes glaring at you from under her fringe. She has long brown hair to her waist, and her small red lips that smile at you when you enter the room . She is  obsessed with paw patrol it's her all time favourite  tv show . If she got a choose of what to have for dinner she would always choose tuna pasta she loves it.

Lottie has a good imagination and is  adventurous and extremely funny. Sometimes she goes off into her own little world and starts playing  pirates or pretending to be a cat. She is playful and very talkative. Lottie often has her moods were she gets grumpy but comes around eventually. At times she gets really annoying and cheeky.  Sometimes she will take your things and will say they are hers and won't give them back. She is very honest like when she has drawn on the table and mum asks who it was and she shouted out, “IT WAS ME MUM.”

I remember a time when we were doing magic tricks and we would make her close her eyes and then swap the things around. She thought it was real  magic. There was another time when we were on the swings and she asked to do a  spin which is where you twist  the swing around and let go. She goes so fast it  was really funny and when she got off the swing  she started tripping over everything.

Eels

We’re going to camp tomorrow and YES there will be eels hanging around at night time…. Let’s find out a bit more about them!

WALT:
  • Locate information
  • Synthesize information from range a of sources and prior knowledge

Prior knowledge:

What do you already know about eels?
  • The Long Finned Eel are Endangered
  • They Are Slimy
  • They can Grow Up to Be 2 Meters Long

Read this article about the longfin eel and answer the following questions:

  • What is the difference between the long and short fin eel?
The LongFin Eel is different because the dorsal Fin is longer further forward than the anal fin

  • Why is it a threatened species?
from soils into waterways can result in large quantities of oxygen being removed from the water. The result of this oxygen depletion is that the eels will either die or move away. Toxins in the water such as minerals and hydrocarbons from mining tailings can also kill eels.

Watch the short clip on the website
  • Describe the life cycle of the eel
They adults start By hanging around the streams and Then they go downstream, then they swim to Tonga and lay there eggs which float to the surface and hatch. As eel larvae which are see through and a leaf shape called Leptocephali, the Leptocephali then float back to New Zealand From the currents Just before they reach the rivers the transform into glass Eels. Then they swim up the river they then turn black turning them into Elvers,  they stay in the river to between 20 to 60 or 100 years before they go back out to sea and travel to Tonga, and lay there eggs which float to the surface and hatch but when the eggs hatch the adult eel dies and only the babies come back to New Zealand

  • What does nocturnal mean?
Nocturnal Means that they Come out at night Not Day.

  • What’s an elver?
An Elver is older then a glass eel  but is a miniature  then an adult but also being the same colour as an adult eel.

  • What are some of the things that are threatening eels?

Toxin in the water minerals and hydrocarbons, Oxygen being removed from the water, water pollution

Finished? Create a ‘fact page’ about eels for your blog
